Step Bolts

A step bolt fastener, also known as a step bolt or carriage bolt, is a type of threaded fastener with a distinctive design. It consists of a cylindrical shank with a smooth, unthreaded portion (known as the neck) immediately beneath the head, followed by a threaded portion toward the end. The head is typically round or square. Step bolts are commonly used in applications where a flush or smooth surface is required on one side of the fastened material, while the other side requires secure and adjustable fastening. The unthreaded neck of the bolt allows for a flush fit, while the threaded portion engages with a matching nut or threaded hole, providing a secure connection. These bolts are often used in wood-to-wood or metal-to-wood connections, as well as in situations where appearance and safety are important, such as in playground equipment, fencing, and architectural structures. The smooth neck of the step bolt ensures a neat and safe finish on the exposed side.
