Toggle Bolts
A toggle bolt, also known as a butterfly anchor or toggle anchor, is a type of fastener used for anchoring heavy objects to hollow walls or ceilings. It consists of two main parts:
Toggle: The toggle is typically a pair of spring-loaded metal wings or straps. When compressed, these wings allow the bolt to be inserted through a hole in the wall.
Bolt: The bolt is a threaded rod or screw that attaches to the toggle. It has a head at one end for turning with a screwdriver or wrench.
The installation process involves drilling a hole into the wall, inserting the folded toggle through the hole, and then tightening the bolt. As the bolt is tightened, the toggle wings spring open behind the wall, securing the bolt in place. This provides a strong anchoring point for hanging heavy objects like shelves, mirrors, or cabinets on walls with limited support.
Toggle bolts are commonly used in construction and DIY projects when attaching items to hollow walls or ceilings, where standard screws or nails may not provide adequate support.
